We arrived in Belize late in the day after an interesting water taxi ride out to the island. San Pedro, a little town that has a lot of tourism. We got off the boat and wondered, how to find our hotel. No one seemed to know where the Corona del Mar was. Ohhh, but it didn't take long and some locals pointed the way and off we went. The people in Belize are very polite and friendly and lots of Americans live on the island. Clean and quiet and the sand was very white. Our dock"Woody's Wharf" is where we were picked up to go dive every day. You could say we had our own private dock.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEirwcVdDjnQFLLSSASJpHMm7OYrPZ-4BkhfG4Uugc7lehpBUCd7HKdrqaoN2jW-Iq54qbw9KUh27xSYPSDuwiXkJKQjQlTniEg94sYO7ibRQ6nilQ3Cpenh2PPnBaRe9RC8cVM86xrXKls/s320/PICT0007.JPG)
The chicken drop was a huge event, I am not sure how much the chickens enjoyed it but the people watching were almost more amusing than the sport itself.
Downtown was pretty quaint, not a lot of vehicles. Everyone drove golf carts, so we had to follow suit and rented a cart for the day, we toured the island. To say the least, it didn't take long to say we have seen it all.
My new friend. We ate quite a lot downtown, one place in particular. The Jerk Pit, the food was fanaminal, couldn't get enough of it.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkRtIHpwrq2Ixj60cfWrLEK5El8tHV8kbqCM-ANF8jWPSaVCjzqJNY57nlBsDMLL552tqKet5dThEVy0BV2apMIRoBN18r_NUtTZL2lt_IW3nlJB52HtiGkY7MK63s6ousVSGzTRQM-6w/s320/PICT0029.JPG)
The fishermen have come home and the pelicans like to welcome them. Cleaning up the mess from cleaning the fish.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuqxYORtYl5B-VsL1YG4_Sqr-bYjxanB20I1oC_92nYsaEtEtr145zDXbeDviGEEFGq6EZhiFZAeM-bZ0KJoi2Ts897b81llGreoLvL36iSVXWwANH0_E6vs0bwu00jQdqLdwjJzkZWdw/s320/PICT0031.JPG)
This was our hotel, it was a nice place, the employees were great and we had a short walk down the beach to the bars and restaurants. There are lots of friendly homeless dogs that roam the beaches and one night a cute fellow followed us home. He slept on the mat outside our door and hung around for a while. I guess it is wrong to say they are homeless, everyone is friendly to them and the town is there home. ![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAU32GMYX8msr-G4kfgUdtVR6sZmsYZ8iIpWfeUw3Ox5TQTjkqw2jwY9dqAGXYSfBWyzL-Zq-kcGh0EHZQelwflPfruLINwG2o74Dkr_xn14Pqx49DGpmTwbR0LYjw7GqwKj4FnhdTQVQ/s320/PICT0008.JPG)
We took a trip to a ruins and to get there we took a boat to the main land up a river and then hopped in a van to the Altun Ha ruins. This was a friendly face heading up the river.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgma5BotsVGWI2zhpNIleAT2Xozp1EjxshEorTkurtzfQVtNkRhgb4b-u-TDri5OYnOJ-DhJhDAblYWWVKmDALb538_kfkBsTnDxGXoHFUkdusWlThJhxAl8Jo8zV6fgey2y2tFpEun8yo/s320/PICT0034.JPG)
The weather was a bit brisk when we stayed in Belize, the locals wore pants and sweatshirts and we froze in shorts and tanks. We are suppose to be tropical was my thinking. The water was usually 78 degrees or cooler and I was glad I had a wet suit, but I still froze. Lots of marine life, we hugged a nurse shark, swam with lots of rays and nurse sharks up shark ray alley. This was the trip to the blue hole and it was the coolest place I have dove to date. The black tip reef sharks started circling under us as we started our ascent to the boat, 142 feet down the stalagtites were amazing to swim around. The boat ride back from the blue hole was entertaining, a storm had rolled in and a few faces where hanging over the side of the boat most of the way home. What a spectacular place, Amberguise Key was well worth the trip!
